A crown is a tooth shaped “cap” that covers the weak or damaged tooth to improve its appearance and function. The crown is cemented over a portion of a tooth that is filed down, fully encasing and protecting the tooth structure. Most crowns are made of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, resin, or ceramic.
